About Upcycling
Simply put, “upcycling” is the reuse of an object, so that it is better than the original. It is a creative process that is at the center of what I enjoy doing.
By taking a piece of hardwood furniture, often a family heirloom, like a desk or cedar chest, and creatively redesigning its appearance. Much of today’s furniture is not of the same quality that it once was. So, by utilizing family treasures or flea market finds and “upcycling” them, a quality product reemerges of greater value.
Upcycling is also great for the environment. It takes an object which is then creatively transformed into something beautiful and relevant, and reduces waste at the same time. In a “throw away” world, the process of upcycling invites us to save what is good, to become something great.
